Time has gone when healthy people were regarded as people belonging to rich families.  Nowadays, it’s considered as just a result of unhealthy eating and unhealthy living. With the advancement in technology, people have tended to become more lethargic. People have got so much indulge in their lives that they hardly care for themselves. No exercise and more of unhealthy food consumption, this gives rise to being overweight or obesity.

Overweight and obesity are defined as abnormal or excessive fat accumulation that may impair health.

Body mass index (BMI) is a simple index of weight-for-height that is commonly used to classify overweight and obesity in adults. It is defined as a person’s weight in kilograms divided by the square of his height in meters (kg/m2).

The WHO definition is:

  • a BMI greater than or equal to 25 is overweight
  • a BMI greater than or equal to 30 is obesity.

BMI provides the most useful population-level measure of overweight and obesity as it is the same for both sexes and for all ages of adults. However, it should be considered a rough guide because it may not correspond to the same degree of fatness in different individuals.

Weight is the only thing where losing is more difficult than gaining. With the passage of time many health clubs have began giving gym, cardio, aerobics, yoga and many more. Some people also prefer walking, jogging or playing any of their favorite outdoor sport. Being fit and maintaining a good body shape can never go out of fashion and hence every girl desires to get a zero figure like Kareena and every guy wants to get body like Salman.

Then there are third kind of people, who neither workout nor do any physical exercise, yet they want to lose weight and these are the people who opt for ‘dieting’. They go for lesser and lesser food as they wish to get instant weight loss, the cut their regular diets to reduce weight; they almost exclude everything including nutrition’s food.

The definition of diet is “lower in fat, sugar, calories, etc. than the regular product”. It’s astonishing, when the definition of diet is so clear, yet people convert dieting with starving and its result can be disastrous. A person may suffer from many undesirable consequences. Dieting excludes necessary nutrition and vitamins from our life and this can only sabotage your health. We usually misunderstand this term and go for unhealthy diet.

Dieting may lead to Binge eating. It’s a fact to be agreed that if you skip meals and your favorite food throughout the day, then there are chances that you may feel hungry at late nights. This will force you to eat as you can never sleep with an empty stomach, this will surely make weight gain.

Food is the ultimate power supplier for everyone in this world. Say it animals or plants, plants need sunlight to perform photosynthesis and animals need food to perform their work. Our body needs proteins to repair tissues and perform various activities and consuming less protein in our diet may be terrible.

Unhealthy dieting might also be considered the root cause for sudden mood swings. Lack of proper food make people feel irritated the whole day. This also makes them aggressive and makes an unhealthy mental situation, which creates problem not only for the man himself but also for others. Less food intake gives less energy, and due to less energy one feels dizzy and nauseous the whole day. Unhealthy dieting may also lead to Sadness or depression. Juices and salads might be healthy but without solid food intake one cannot live a healthy body and mind.

It’s true that good and nutritious diet can not only make your health better but also help in avoiding many health problems in the long term such as heart ailments and diabetes. When you go on a diet without giving any thought to your health and nutrition you may end up losing your health and face many health complications such as a weaker immunity.

If someone really wishes to opt dieting then he or she must choose a healthy dieting. Healthy diet doesn’t mean to eat less or to keep starving, but it includes a healthy eating and healthy living.

  • Eat vegetables to help you feel full.
  • Drink plenty of water.
  • Get tempting foods out of your home.
  • Stay busy — you don’t want to eat just because you’re bored.
  • Eat only from a plate, while seated at a table. No grazing in front of the ‘fridge.
  • Don’t skip meals.

Before planning for a weight loss, one must also know the fact that nothing can be done instantly. Patience is must have. Dieting pills and skipping meals may radically bring in a change but it won’t last forever. A smart exercise may bring in a good change and in a healthy way. Cycling, swimming, walking, running, etc may not just reduce your weight but also will give you a perfect body shape and body posture.

Our body is the result of hard work and determination. Hence, our body is our own creation.
