Not just today but all along there have been influential and powerful women who have altered the course of history and inspired the masses. Be it science, politics, entrepreneurs or world peace, women have been an essential part throughout. From being good homemakers to running the country, women have never lagged behind and done an excellent job. They have left their mark with their achievement in their respective fields. From Madame Curie to Mother Teresa, women have left their mark in history. They have shown to the world that they are not behind in any field. These women are an inspiration to all of us. Their stories move us, their hard work, passion and dedication is one of a  kind. Here are a few women who have been at the top during their time.


#1 Indira Nooyi


Indra Nooyi is one of the most successful people in her field. She joined PepsiCo (the second largest food and beverage corporation) in 1994 and was named the president and CFO in 2001 and went on to become the CEO of the foundation in 2001, a post she holds till date. She was born in Madras and completed her bachelor from Madras Christian College and her MBA from the prestigious Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta. Coming from a very humble background, she has been an inspiration for all the aspiring women who are in this field and want to succeed in the field of business and management. Her story has inspired not only women but also men throughout the world.


#2 Angela Dorothea Merkel









Angela Dorothea Merkel is a German politician and a former research scientist, who has been the Chancellor of Germany since 2005 and the leader of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) since 2000. She is the first woman to hold either office. She is the considered the most powerful or influential woman in the world by the Forbes magazine. Rather she is the only woman who is in the top ten in the list of most influential people in the world by Forbes magazines. She is considering the backbone of the European Union.


#3 Marie Curie


Marie Curie was a polish scientist who won the Nobel Prize in physics along with her husband. She is known for her works in radioactivity and for the discovery of polonium. Sadly she died because of prolonged exposure to radioactive substances without proper protection.

She is till date one of the most famous female scientists and has become an inspiration in the scientific world. She has received many awards and laurels for her work. The curie (symbol Ci) is a unit of radioactivity which is named in honor of her and Pierre (her husband).


#4 Mother Teresa

“By blood, I am Albanian. By citizenship, an Indian. By faith, I am a Catholic nun. As to my calling, I belong to the world. As to my heart, I belong entirely to the Heart of Jesus. ” These are the words of Mother Teresa. I don’t think we need an introduction to who this woman is. She joined the Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary, known as the Sisters of Loreto, in Ireland. There she received the name Sister Mary. She worked for the poor all her life and even during the last years of her life, despite increasingly severe health problems, she continued to govern her Society and respond to the needs of the poor and the Church. By 1997, Mother Teresa’s Sisters numbered nearly 4,000 members and were established in 610 foundations in 123 countries of the world. She was one woman who gave up everything to help the needy, to care for the uncared for, to love the unloved.


#5 Marilyn Monroe


Marilyn Monroe was an American actress, model, and singer and went on to become the sex symbol. She has starred in a number of successful movies during the 1950s and early 1960s. She had a very traumatic childhood. She was fatherless and her mother suffered from a mental illness and was therefore institutionalized. She lives in a number of orphanages and foster homes and was a victim of sexual abuse and poverty.Marilyn also featured on a USA postage stamp back in 1995. Shewas well-known for her ability to get a laugh. Actor and musician Jack Lemmon said: “She was a wonderful comedienne and she had a charisma like no one before or since.”



#6 J K Rowling


The writer of the legendary series Harry Potter, J K Rowling is one of the most famous novelists of our time. Her series have become the most bestselling books in the history of the world. She began writing this world famous series after getting divorced from her husband. At that time things were not going well for her. She was a single mother in the times of depression and was having a lot of trouble. And even all of this did not stop her. She never gave up writing. She took a job as an english teacher and would still write in her spare time and that is how Harry Potter happened. Even in the times of hardships she never gave up and followed her dreams.



Women have made a place for themselves in this world. Be it the 1990s or the 21st century, they have made a name in the world and left a mark in pages of history. We need to learn from them how to follow your passion and not let anyone or anything stop you. Be it a bad childhood or a poor background, they overcame everything and shone like stars in their field.
