The stage in the life of a girl when she starts changing mentally and physically can go either ways. This process can either be a wonderful experience for her or things can go horribly wrong. It depends on how she perceives these changes and handles them. Not only this but also it depends on how people around her react to her changing. This is a very crucial moment for her as it is these years which make her a woman and shape her life. Also this is the time peer pressure acts on people and they can act out of the ordinary to fit in. The kids at this stage may do extreme things to fit in and to be liked by others. People are forced to do things they don’t want to or would not done if the circumstances were different. Girls especially may have a problem because they are experiencing changes within themselves also and it is tougher for them to cope with this time.
When these young adults face self-esteem and body image problems, they can become frustrated and to remedy that they stop eating, which results in various health problems due to eating disorders. This in turn leads the teens to start feeling stresses out and trapped. This feeling further increases when they are exposed to peer-pressure and competition at school, or child abuse at home. Many of them take up drinking and smoking in order to relieve the stress and to deal with situations they are not equipped to handle. Many may run away from home, play computer games, and start chatting online with strangers. These strangers can take advantage of these vulnerable young adults and might misguide them or use them to their advantage. Girls are the ones who mostly get caught up in such problems. They meet someone online and confined in that person without knowing if that person is reliable or not and before they know it that stranger who they thought was really supportive in the beginning starts demanding more things which the girls feel obliged to. In some situation these strangers may take advantage of them using the fact that they know a lot about them and ha
Adolescence is a tough time for everybody and people get caught up in it. Everyone suddenly grows up, friends change and so does the entire atmosphere and all of this within a span of the summer vacations before high school. Its like this train of growing up comes and you have to catch it exactly at the right time. This is the time when girls and guys become interested in each other in a more than just friendly way, they start being attracted to each other. This puts a lot of pressure on these young adults. The pressure to look good to look perfect. Girls strive to achieve the perfect size zero figure or the Barbie doll figure which is extremely tough to attain. In their mission to attain a perfect figure they tend to take extreme measures. They might stop eating at all or start taking pills in the hope of becoming perfect. This also leads to bulimia, anorexia and depression. Many young women either die, or suffer permanent damage to their health by their desperate attempts to be thin. This leads to many health problems.
This is not just the only problem. There is also the problem of peer pressure. This is one of the major problems these young adults face. At this age things like alcohol, smoking etc. seem very lucrative and they try all of this once or twice and they do not realize when they get addicted to all of this. Not only this they also think that all of this is cool and they should do it. For example, they face problems with the law, at school, with their parents, and peers. In the USA, drug abuse is a major problem affecting millions of teenagers, along with their parents and families. Girls are also affected by this to quite some extent. They might be forced to get into these things because all the popular girls do it or to impress some guy they like, not knowing the adverse affect it can have on them.
Bullying is also one of the worst teenage problems and affects millions of youths. Bullying causes fear in the minds of kids, and makes them nervous going to school each day. The adults do not always witness the bullying in their lives. The teenage children may be subject to heavy bullying as they may not understand how extreme it can get. Any form of bullying is relentless, causing the affected teenagers to live in a state of constant fear. Two of the prime reasons teens are bullied are their appearance and social status. Bullying has caused many serious and life threatening problems for bullied teens. As they get bullied often in school, their academics, and mental health suffer.
Problems that teenagers and especially girls are faced with today are multifarious but also interrelated in many cases. One problem leads to another and then the next and they are deep in trouble before they realize it. Parents, teachers and our older siblings and friends should be well aware of the problems and rather than ignoring them and letting them deal with the situation on their own, they should take an active interest in their lives and help them out. They could do this by sharing their own experiences.
